European Traffic Photos

Geek Alert!

Portland Transport reader (and PDOT safety guru) Greg Raisman just returned from a European vacation, where his wife was tolerant enough to let him take a LOT of pictures of traffic patterns in different cities. Check it out on Flickr.

Thanks for sharing your photos Greg. It makes me want to get on a plane and go back to the Netherlands, Belgium and the Czech Republic. Prague has really come a long ways in regards to bikes. It has always been a fantastic walking city, but 14 years ago it was very uncommon to see bikes in the city.

Glad you enjoyed them, Lynn. I want to get back on a plane to the Netherlands, Belgium, and the Czech Republic too!

I had heard the same thing about Prague. I was surprised on my bus ride from the airport to the subway station that there was a very nice, new bike and ped path on along the road we were on. The path went the entire distance of our 20 minute bus ride.

Once in the historic/tourist part of the city, there were definitely people using bikes for transportation. There weren't as many as we have here in Portland. But, still a significant number. It seemed like they have a burgeoning and successful effort underway.

It's still a great place for a walk. The stroll up to the Prague Castle was spectacular. Down from it was even more fun - thanks to Budvar.
